Garena scraps the Free Fire regional league for 2027 and puts US$1.4 million behind four Southeast Asian national leagues

Garena will drop the FFWS Southeast Asia regional league from the 2027 Free Fire calendar and route teams to the Global Finals through the Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian domestic leagues. Seven of the region's eight Global Finals slots go directly to those leagues, with the last decided by a 12-team Last Chance Qualifier. The four leagues share a combined US$1.4 million prize pool over two 2027 seasons, including US$100,000 per season for FFWS Malaysia. Schedules and formats are still to be announced.

Why it matters Moving the qualification weight onto national leagues gives local sponsors, broadcasters and organisers in four markets a bigger, more bankable product to build around, and a clearer route for homegrown teams to reach a global stage.
